CFC VOCAL MUSIC
Students develop musicianship and specific performance skills through ensemble and solo singing. Activities create the development of quality repertoire in the diverse styles of choral literature appropriate in difficulty and range for the students. Instruction is designed so that students are enabled to integrate music study into other subject areas. Students have the opportunity to experience live performances by professionals during and outside of the school day.
Beginning Chorus (Origins) (Gr. 9-12) 2 semesters 1601/1602
This is a non-audition choir open to all. This choir will study a variety of musical styles and teach students a wide range of vocal technique. They will have the opportunity to perform with a larger ensemble during the year and as a smaller ensemble. Students taking Beginning Chorus develop musicianship and specific performance skills through ensemble and solo singing. This class includes the study of quality repertoire in the diverse styles of choral literature appropriate in difficulty and range for the students. Chorus classes provide opportunities for performing, creating, and responding to music. Students develop the ability to understand and convey the composer’s intent in performance of music. Time outside of the school day may be scheduled for rehearsals and performances. A small number of public performances will be required. (4182)

Intermediate Chorus (Charger Chorus) (Gr. 9-12) 2 semesters 1641/1642
This course provides opportunities to develop musicianship and specific performance skills through ensemble. This class includes the study of quality repertoire in the diverse styles of choral literature appropriate in difficulty and range for the students. Chorus classes provide opportunities for performing, creating, and responding to music. Students develop the ability to understand and convey the composer’s intent in performance of music. Time outside of the school day may be scheduled for rehearsals and performances. A small number of public performances will be required. A fee of $20.00 for concert attire rental will be assessed at the beginning of each year. There are limited after school preparation for performances. (4186)

Advanced Chorus I (Select Sound) (Gr. 9-12) 2 semesters 1631/1632
Open to female students only. This is for the student who enjoys singing and dancing and has time to commit to extra rehearsals and weekends. This choir participates in all school concerts, as well as contests and festivals at other schools throughout the school year. Fees for performance attire and travel costs are established in the Spring. These fees will range between $1,000-$2,500. As a co-curricular class/activity student grades are affected by after school rehearsal, performance participation, & effort in the same manner as class. Areas of refinement include acappella singing, sight-reading, and critical listening skills. (4188)

Advanced Chorus II (Minstrel Magic) (Gr. 9-12) 2 semesters 1621/1622
This is for the student who enjoys performing and has time to commit to extra rehearsals and weekends during competition season. This choir participates in all school concerts, ISSMA, as well as contests and festivals throughout the year. Fees for performance attire and travel costs are established in the Spring. These fees will range between $1,000-$2,500. Public performances serve as a culmination of daily rehearsal and music goals. As a co-curricular class/activity student grades are affected by afterschool rehearsal and performance participation and effort in the same manner as class. Areas of refinement include a cappella singing, sight-reading, and critical listening skills. (4188)

This Choir is open to men only and will concentrate on music suited particularly for the male voice. Acapella and accompanied music will be utilized to teach a variety of styles and techniques. Students taking Advanced Chorus III for men will develop musicianship and specific performance skills through ensemble and solo singing. This class includes the study of quality repertoire in the diverse styles of choral literature appropriate in difficulty and range for music. Students develop the ability to understand and convey the composer’s intent in performance of music. Some outside rehearsal and performance will be required. (4188)

Choral Chamber Ensemble (Mixed Chorus-Chorale)(Gr. 9-12) 1 or 2 semesters 1721/1722
Student musicianship and specific performance skills in this course are enhanced through specialized small group instruction. The activities expand the repertoire of a specific genre. Chamber ensemble classes provide instruction in creating, performing, listening to, and analyzing music in addition to focusing on specific subject matter. Students develop the ability to understand and convey the composer’s intent in performance of music. Time outside of the school day may be scheduled for rehearsals and performances. A limited number of public performances may serve as a culmination of daily rehearsal and musical goals. Students are required to participate in performance opportunities outside of the school day that support and extend learning in the classroom. This class is for both males and females and focuses on acapella music. (4180)

Musical Theatre (Gr. 9-12) 1 semester 1346
Students study the history of musical theatre and its place in today’s society. They participate in staging, choreographing, rehearsing, and performing an original or existing musical work. Additionally, students explore career opportunities in theatre, attend and critique theatrical productions, and recognize the responsibilities and the importance of individual theatre patrons in their community. Regular class performances will be held and outside performances opportunities will be offered to students as available. As this course is performance based, attendance is vital to ensure student achievement. Students will perform scenes as well as vocal solos, duets, and ensembles throughout the semester. There will be one evening public performance requirement for this class. (0518)
