Introduction to 2-Dimensional Art and Design (Gr. 9-12) 1 semester                                        1006

This course introduces the fundamentals of art and a variety of media and techniques.  The areas of graphite drawing, colored pencil drawing, watercolor, acrylics, mixed media, design, elements and principles of design, still life, and more may be covered. As a survey course students become familiar with all of these areas as they create interesting pieces of art.  (4000)

 

Introduction to 3-Dimensional Art and Design (Gr. 9-12) 1 semester                                        1016

Students are introduced to a variety of three-dimensional media and techniques.  The areas of ceramics, relief sculpture, subtractive and additive sculpture, and more may be covered. Students become familiar with the tools and techniques of 3-D work while creating works of art. (4002)

 

 

Digital Design 1 (Gr. 9-12) 1 semester                                                                                      1226

Digital Design I introduces students to the art and concepts of graphic design and digital illustration. Students learn basic concepts of graphic design, producing identity packages, posters, packaging.  Students also learn the art of digital illustration producing illustrative images using the Adobe Creative Suite.  Students create illustrations for posters, books, and advertising. Students create graphics and layouts for some school events and activities. (4082)

 

Digital Design 2 (Gr. 9-12) 1 semester                                                                                      1326

This course is an advanced design class.  Students continue the study of graphic design but move to focus more heavily on personal styles and techniques.  The class builds on skills from Digital Design 1 and builds in complexity.  The course utilizes the programs Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop and will introduce Adobe InDesign.  Emphasis is on personal vision, original design, and application beyond the classroom.  (4082)

Note: Dual credit option through PFW

 

Drawing 1 (Gr. 9-12) 1 semester                                                                                               1036

This course is for the serious art student with an aptitude for drawing.  The focus will be on artistic observations, techniques in graphite, colored pencil, pastel, charcoal, and ink.  Assignments may include portraits, figure drawing, and still life.  This course is an important step for students considering additional art courses.   (4060)

Photography 1 (Gr. 9-12) 1 semester                                                                                        1236

This course introduces students to the basic 35mm film camera, shooting pictures, and the developing and printing of black and white photographs in the darkroom.  Students gain a basic understanding of how design and composition helps the photographer produce creative and artistic photographs with visual expression.   Students also learn how to record photographic ideas into a sketchbook.   (4062)

Recommendation: Take Photo 1 and 2 in the same school year

Note: Students are REQUIRED to have a 35mm SLR FILM camera (Example:  Canon AE-1)

Note: In addition to class fees of $120 (this covers chemicals, 10 rolls of film, filters, mat board, negative cleaner, negative sleeves, etc), students must buy their own supplies such as photo paper and a sketchbook (approximately $100.00)

 

Photography 2 (Gr. 9-12) 1 semester                                                                                        1246
